01 - ABOUT THE AUTHOR
SOMEWHAT EDUCATED, THOROUGHLY WORN IN
Dr. Phillip G. Andrade brings a distinctive combination of archaeological training, biblical scholarship, ministry experience, and practical fieldwork to his writing. He earned a B.A. in Archaeology, an M.Div. in Theology, and a D.Min. in Leadership Development — an academic path that reflects a lifelong fascination with the places where history, faith, and material evidence intersect.
His interest in archaeology began during his childhood on Cape Cod, searching fields and woodland trails for artifacts and wondering about the people who had lived there centuries before. That early curiosity led to formal study and hands-on experience surveying and mapping Indigenous sites. He also worked with artifact assemblages from the biblical sites of Dothan and Ashkelon at the Harvard Semitic Museum, gaining firsthand experience with material remains from the ancient Near Eastern world.
For more than forty years he has served in ministry, including missionary work in Japan and two long-term senior pastorates in New England. Decades of studying and teaching Scripture give him an unusual perspective on the debates surrounding biblical history, ancient texts, faith, and the interpretation of archaeological discoveries.
Along the way he has also worked as a police officer, graphic designer, firearms instructor, and bladesmith — experiences that have provided more than enough material for both serious reflection and occasional literary mischief.
He and his wife have been married for more than forty years. They have four children and a growing collection of grandchildren.
